Visionary Programs

Visionary programs are programs that Gedakina views as being central to our long-term goals. When Gedakina first organized, we decided to work on smaller scale programs that would make significant and immediate impact for our constituency, while moving towards the longer-term goals of developing the visionary programs. Our visionary programs are programs that we plan on achieving within ten years of obtaining our 501c3 status. We envision these programs to be full time endeavors, and therefore we will have to insure that we have adequate funding, resources and the capacity to deliver the programs, before we implement them.

Conservation Land Trust

The Gedakina Conservation Land Trust will enable Native American Peoples to perform our roles as Caretakers of the land by:

  • Conserving land and waterways so that all our children and their children may use them responsibly in the future without fear of over-development, pollution, deforestation, and "No Trespassing" signs.
  • Saving the Sacred Places of the original inhabitants from development, souvenir seekers, and neglect.
  • Providing a place for repatriated ancestral remains of Northeastern Native American Peoples.

The goal of the Gedakina Conservation Land Trust is to raise the financial support necessary to repurchase the lands and places that are special and Sacred for our Peoples and place them in a trust where they will be preserved for all people to enjoy.

Environmental Conservation

Environmental conservation and land preservation are integral parts of preserving traditional Native American cultures. The concept that we are all connected to the land for our existence reaches deeply into the very essence of our cultural identity. Central to Gedakina is the interconnected relationship between Gedakina's Conservation Land Trust and the Cultural and Environmental Education Center that will allow us to preserve traditional Northeastern Native American cultures and pass this knowledge on to our youth.

A portion of the Gedakina Conservation Land Trust will be utilized to create a Cultural and Environmental Education Center.

Sacred Places and Repatriation

A portion of the Gedakina Conservation Land Trust will be utilized for the repatriation of Northeastern Native American' ancestral remains and for the preservation of Sacred Places. Our goal is to preserve and protect Sacred Places such as petroglyph and stone sites and create a place where the repatriated Northeastern Native Americans' ancestral remains can be re-interred and remain undisturbed indefinitely.

Region

The Gedakina Conservation Land Trust will be located in various areas of the following regions: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and upstate New York in locations designated as Sacred Places and areas ideal for environmental conservation and repatriation.
